Certificate in Accounting Technician [CAT]

The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) is a premier professional body of Management Accountants in the Country established on 28th May, 1959 under the Cost and Works Accountants Act, 1959 as amended by the Cost and Works Accountants (Amendment) Act, 2006 enacted by the Parliament to regulate the profession of Cost and Management Accountancy in India.

To meet the heavy demand for Accountants at Junior level in India ICWAI has introduced a Certificate in Accounting Technicians (CAT) Course of one year duration for 12th (10+2) passed and Graduates. In Consultation with Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the CAT course has been designed to equip the candidates in the maintenance of accounts, preparation of Income Tax Return and Service Tax Return, Filing of Returns under Companies Act, Filing of Returns under Income Tax, VAT, Service Tax, Central Excise and Custom Act, Export and Import Documentation etc. The CAT Course encompasses all the above aspects keeping in view that the aspirants of the Course would be mainly from semi-urban and rural India. Directorate of CAT would administer and monitor the complete Course which comprises of Education, Computer Training,Practical Training and Orientation Training.

CAT Course is conducted through Oral Coaching mode only. The oral coaching to CAT Students is provided by 4 Regional Councils (RC), Chapters of the Institutes and Recognized Oral Coaching Centres (ROCCs). The list of ROCCs is regularly updated on the website www.icwai.org of the Institute.

The objective of this CAT Oral Coaching Manual is to provide all information required for imparting Coaching Oral coaching / 60 hours Computer Training, Orientation Training, 6 months practical training and also the records to be maintained at Coaching Centres along with other procedures related to Admission / Examination and sharing of fees/expenses etc.

ABOUT CAT COURSE

The Certificate in Accounting Technicians (CAT) Course is of one year duration and consists of Level I and Level II.

1 Level I (Complete course) Passed Senior Secondary School Examination (10+2) of a Board recognized by the Central or State Government or equivalent Examination as recognized by All India Council of Technical Education or National Council of Higher Education. Students awaiting results of 10+2 Examination or equivalent may also apply for provisional admission.
2 Level II (Competency Level) Direct entry for any Graduates
Or
Foundation Passed students of ICWAI
  Medium English and Hindi

For getting CAT Certificate a student has to cross the following stages

  • Foundation Course (Entry Level) and
  • Competency Level
  • Computer Training (60 Hours)
  • Practical Training (6 Months) and
  • Orientation Training Programme (15 Days)

The papers covered under CAT Course are : -

Level – I

Paper 1 : Organization and Management Fundamentals.
Paper 2 : Accounting
Paper 3 : Economics and Business Fundamentals
Paper 4 : Business Mathematics and Statistics Fundamentals

Level – II

Paper 5 : Financial Accounting
Paper 6 : Applied Statutory Compliance

Course Fee

Complete Course (Both Level I and II) : Rs. 8600/-
Direct Admission to Competency level : Rs. 8500/-
Orientation Fee : Rs. 500/- payable to the coaching centre, by each student.

Course Fee includes Registration Fee, Tuition Fee, Computer Training Fee, Training Registration Fee and Study Materials (7 Books)

Mode of payment : A fee has to be paid in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favour of “ICWAI A/C CAT” payable at New Delhi.
